Lourdes Health System recently held a pope-themed party to celebrate the 65th anniversary of its founding hospital, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, as well as Pope Francis’ visit to the Philadelphia area.
Participants enjoyed “pope shots” of a vanilla shortbread cookie-flavored milkshake, a specially made commemorative chocolate bar imprinted with an image of the pope and the Lourdes logo, selfies with a life-size cutout of Pope Francis, and the chance to meet special guest “Pope Frank.” Actor Richard Alliger, dressed as Pope Francis, came with a message about the importance of health and well-being.
Additional plans for the hospital’s anniversary included a Mass on Sept. 23, at Lourdes.
The health system is also participating in Operation Soap Dish. Cathedral Pantry at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Camden is collecting travel-size soaps, shampoos and toothpaste to distribute to its homeless clients. Donation drop-off sites are located throughout Lourdes campuses.
