Marianne Linka named director of Cemeteries

mariannelinka-webBishop Dennis Sullivan has announced the appointment of Marianne Linka as director of Cemeteries for the Diocese of Camden, effective July 1.
Most recently, Linka served as director of Business Solutions for the Diocese of Camden since 2008.
As director of Cemeteries, she will oversee the operation, care and maintenance of the diocesan-owned and -run 15 cemeteries, and six mausoleums. Linka will also serve as needed to the 10 parish-run cemeteries in the diocese.
Linka holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Rutgers College, Rutgers University, New Brunswick (1984); and a master’s in church management, Villanova University School of Business (2012).
After many years of working primarily in banking and insurance, she joined the Diocese of Camden in 1999 as director of the newly-established Management Information Systems Department. In 2005, she became client service manager in the newly-merged Information Technology Department, before becoming director of Business Solutions in 2008.
Speaking of her new position, Linka said that she recognizes “the challenges that come with the management of the sacred places where our faithful come to rest. While the rules and regulations of such an operation must be adhered to, we should always keep in mind that we are performing a Corporal Work of Mercy in burying our deceased. The work goes beyond the act of burying the dead, to offering prayer and comfort to the family and friends left behind.”
Currently, Linka is working toward becoming a certified Catholic cemetery executive through the Catholic Cemetery Conference School of Leadership and Management Excellence at the University of Notre Dame.
