“Please pray for me and my family, doing good in my swim meet, my uncle, mom and cousin’s son so they can feel better and recover in cancer.”
“Your courage in God is inspiring. … You are in our hearts and we are praying for you.”
“Knowing that you’re taking this route makes me believe that there are still people who will answer the Lord’s call to priesthood and I believe that’s a huge commitment and blessing. … You will face trials while on this journey just like everyone else. But, I know God will give you the power to overcome all of them.”
These are just some of the encouragement and support Catholic school and religious education students have given to seminarians this past year as part of the New Jersey Knights of Columbus’ Seminarian Letter Project.
For more than 20 years, the Seminarian Letter Project has been held throughout the state, providing love and prayers for those men discerning God’s call.
This past year, students’ letters and cards were forwarded to seminaries across the country and in Rome, including the Pontifical North American College (Vatican City), Immaculate Conception Seminary and College Seminary at Saint Andrew’s Hall at Seton Hall University (South Orange, N.J.), and Saint Joseph’s Seminary (Yonkers, N.Y.), where seminarians of the Diocese of Camden currently study.
Throughout New Jersey, there have been 17 participating Knights of Columbus councils, with 10 of them from the Diocese of Camden: Saint John Neumann Council, Cape May Court House; Msgr. C.C. McCorristan Council 1994, Wenonah; Nativity Council 2976, Lindenwold; Liberty Council 1910, Bridgeton; Saint Margaret Council 13259, Wenonah; Saint Jude Council 6551, Gibbsboro; Archangel Council 7429, Erial; Holy Family Council 7800, Stratford; Holy Crusaders Council 9193, Blackwood; and Saint Jude Council 12092, Bellmawr. The notes’ effects on seminarians is evident in one seminarian’s “Thank You” reply: “When I opened each of the cards with the wishing and praying that are for me … I could not hold my tears. I cried because of the love of others for me.”
