Sister M. Magdalene Fanucci, a member of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, Villa Rossello, Newfield, died Feb. 16, at Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, York, Pa. where she had been a resident for nine months.
Sister Magdalene, born in Germania (Municipality of Galloway Township), entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, in York, Pa. on Feb. 2, 1944, and professed her vows on Aug. 16, 1945.
She taught at St. Mary Magdalen School, Millville, and St. Rose of Lima School, Newfield, and she was principal at St. Francis School, Vineland, NJ.
She also taught and served as a principal at schools in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
In recent years and until the time of her retirement, she was librarian/media coordinator at Bishop O’Reilly High School in Kingston, Pa. Sister was a member of the Harrisburg Diocesan School Board for two years and held membership in several other educational associations. She also served on the Sisters Advisory Council in both Scranton and Harrisburg dioceses for a number of years.
In addition to her parents, Sister Magdalene was preceded in death by her brothers, Angelo and Francis Fanucci. Surviving are her brother, Father Santino Fanucci residing at Villa St. Joseph, Dunmore, Pa., sister-in-law, Gloria Fanucci of Enterprise, Alabama; her nieces Christine LaMonica, of Hazleton, Pa. and Joan Parrish, Chandler, Ariz., her nephew Francis X. Fanucci, Mobile, Ala., her great niece Angela (LaMonica) Moore, Hazleton, Pa., and great nephews Zackary Parrish and Luke Parrish, Chandler, Ariz., Samuel Fanucci of Georgia, and by her religious community, the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 1101 Willow Street, Peckville, Pa., on Monday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, Pa.
