Making his triumphant return to the Talking Catholic podcast is Kevin Hickey, executive director of Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Camden. One of our favorite recurring guests, Kevin chats with us this week about the organization’s Justice for All ceremony, this year being held virtually on October 8, 2020.
For 17 years, the South Jersey Catholic Charities agency has held the Justice for All dinner to showcase the great work being done in the region and to raise much needed funds.
The agency is able to serve approximately 24,000 individuals each year, in large part because of funds raised by the Justice for All ceremony. It is the largest fundraiser held by the agency and all funds raised from the event are used for direct client services. Since its inception in 2004, it has raised more than 1 million dollars, every penny of which is used to meet the needs of the poorest and the marginalized – families who are homeless or facing homelessness, those with mental health or substance abuse crises, individuals struggling with hardships such as losing their jobs or being forced to choose between paying for food or medications.
The Justice for All event also honors those who have proven a life-long commitment to serving the poor and the vulnerable, highlighting their work and their commitment to charity and social justice. This year, Catholic Charities will bestow five Disciples of Mercy awards on individuals and groups, as well as the Saint John Neumann award to Bishop Dennis Sullivan of the Diocese of Camden for his long-time support of Catholic Charities.
