Bishop Dennis Sullivan marked the 10th anniversary of the Saint Vincent de Paul Church building during a Vigil Mass Jan. 15 in Mays Landing.

“The parish church is the center of our Catholic life, where we grow in faith,” Bishop Sullivan said in his homily, noting its storied history in South Jersey. He also expressed gratitude to God for those whose vision and generosity made possible the church’s construction, and for those whose continuous support makes possible the care and upkeep of the building, as well as the faith community’s many programs and ministries that reach out to the Atlantic County community.

Since 1906, Saint Vincent de Paul has been an anchor for the faithful in Mays Landing. Today, the parish complex includes the church, located on Harding Highway next to Holy Cross Cemetery, as well as a rectory, offices, meeting rooms and a food pantry.
At the Eucharistic celebration, Bishop was joined by Father Jason Rocks, chancellor, and Father Edward Heintzelman, parish pastor, as well as clergy and the parish community.
Calling Bishop Sullivan “very generous in his time” to commemorate the occasion, Father Heintzelman praised the “phenomenal” support of his parishioners who have stepped up and “enhanced the [life of] the faith community and the young people.”

Deacon Richard Maxwell acknowledged “the beautiful church, beautiful building and very spiritual people” of Saint Vincent de Paul.
“We’ve grown, gathered together as a family … and have reached out to others in need,” he said.
