Last month, classes began once again for IMEC (Instituto de Ministerio Eclesial de Camden), the lay ministry formation program for Spanish-speaking adults. More than 100 students are attending the classes.
Focusing on Sacred Scripture, Theology, Spirituality, and Pastoral Skills, the courses are divided into three ascending levels: Year 1, 2, and 3.
This academic year, classes are held the parishes of Our Lady of Hope, Blackwood; Holy Cross, Bridgeton; Saint Mary of Mount Carmel, Hammonton; Saint Damien, Ocean City; Saint Clare of Assisi, Swedesboro; and Divine Mercy, Vineland.
The courses are “a great opportunity for the Latino community to be formed as authentic missionary disciples,” said Andres Arango, the Bishop’s Delegate for Hispanic Ministry in the Diocese of Camden, adding that the five six-week courses attendees are required to take each year “involve not just academic formation, but spiritual and pastoral components.”
