Brother Gerald Hudson, OFM, 67, a pastoral associate at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Camden, died suddenly on Tuesday, March 2.
“Brother Jerry” as he was known to all, had been at St. Anthony’s since September 2006 and was involved in many ministries, most notably CCOP (Camden Churches Organized for People) and St. Anthony’s Community Garden.
Brother Jerry visited the sick and homebound, performed wake services, helped with parish maintenance, and on occasion served as a substitute teacher at St. Anthony of Padua School. His biggest passions were for speaking out on behalf of the poor and marginalized, and gardening.
He cared for the gardens around the St. Anthony of Padua Friary, and worked with the Camden Children’s Garden to make St. Anthony’s Community Garden one of the most successful in the city, helping transform that part of Cramer Hill into an oasis of beauty, joy and hope.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made, but will be available by calling the parish office at 856-963-5884 or checking the St. Anthony’s website, www.stanthonycamden.org
