The Camden Catholic boys and girls basketball teams won their respective Non-Public South A quarterfinal matchups last Friday, March 5, to advance to semifinal games. In the girls’ game, host Camden Catholic defeated Red Bank Catholic, 57-46. The win marked the 500th victory for Irish coach Chris Palladino, in her 26th season with the team. Serifat Junaid led Irish scoring with 16 points. On Monday, the team defeated Holy Spirit, 46-40, in the semifinal. In the boys’ game, the Cherry Hill school defeated Paul VI, 63-43, with the Irish’s Sherard Cadogan leading all players with 19 points. The boys also defeated St. Joseph (Metuchen) last Monday by a score of 62-59, to advance to the final. The girls’ squad played St. John Vianney School for the Non-Public South A championship on Wednesday afternoon, while the boys’ squad played St. Augustine; both games’ tipoff times were after this issue went to press.
