BARRINGTON — The 2009 Dr. David T. Coghlan Scholarship Award was presented June 5 to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Regional School student Evan T. Fisher, who received a $1000 scholarship to Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester, where he will be a student in the fall.
Evan is active in and outside the classroom, participating on the school’s yearbook committee, tutoring younger students in math, and volunteering at Cooper University Hospital, Camden.
The three runners-up and recipients of $500 scholarships were Alexandra Homan, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Berlin (attending Paul VI High School, Haddon Township); Joachim Cendana, St. Mary, Williamstown (attending St. Joseph High School, Hammonton); and Bridget Dandrea, St. Joseph Regional School, Somers Point (attending Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Newfield).
Dr. David T. Coghlan was president of Paul VI High School, and superintendent of schools for the Camden Diocese. In 2005, he died at the age of 56.
Twenty-eight eighth grade students were nominated for the award. Each school principal gets to nominate one student as their school’s Dr. Coghlan scholars. Every student who applies receives a $50 U.S. savings bond.
