Father Vandegrift named pastor of St. Thomas

Bishop Joseph A. Galante announces the appointment of Father William S. Vandegrift as pastor of St. Thomas Parish, Brigantine, effective April 1.

Father Vandegrift, 65, previously served as pastor of St. James Parish, Penns Grove, 1997-2003, and St. Raymond, Villas, 2004-10. From 2003-04, he served as administrator at St. Raymond.

Ordained on May 24, 1980, after attending Mount St. Mary’s, Emmitsburg, Md., Father Vandegrift’s first assignment was as parochial vicar at Mary, Mother of the Church in Bellmawr, where he served until 1983.

He was parochial vicar at St. Matthew Parish, National Park, 1983-87; St. Maria Goretti, Runnemede,1987-92; and St. Augustine, Ocean City, 1992-94. He was administrator of St. Augustine, 1994-97.

Father Vandegrift also has served as Spiritual Moderator for Separated and Divorced (1988-1990), and Spiritual Moderator for New Beginnings, 1990-91.
