Larry W. Gormley, 81, of Indian Head, Maryland, died surrounded by his family on Sept. 9.
Mr. Gormley was born and raised in Atlantic City and served on the Atlantic City Beach Patrol. He resided in Maryland for over 50 years. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He then worked for the Department of the Navy as a safety specialist. After retirement, he owned and operated an accounting firm and an environmental business.
He was a faithful parishioner at Saint Mary, Star of the Sea Church in Indian Head, Maryland, serving on various committees over the years. Mr. Gormley was a faithful member of the Equestrian Order of the Knights of Holy Sepulcher.
He also served on the Board of the Charles County Parks and Recreation.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting on the Eastern Shore and fishing whenever and wherever he could.
He was the loving husband of Marie “Mitzi” Hodge Gormley for 58 years, devoted father of Larry (Tina), Billy (Bucky), Rev. Raymond and AnnaStasia High (Lance), proud grandfather of Megan, Lars and Erin Gormley and Elizabeth, AnnaStasia and Mary Catherine High. He is also survived by his brother John Raymond Gormley (Margo) and brother-in-law Msgr. William A. Hodge.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Larry W. Gormley 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Saint Nicholas of Tolentine Church, Tennessee and Pacific avenues in Atlantic City. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. The Rite of Committal will be offered at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5061 Harding Highway (Route 40), Mays Landing, following Mass.
