Tom Bunting has stepped down as coach of the Gloucester Catholic ice hockey team, the high school announced April 12.
Bunting has been part of the Rams’ program for the last 10 years and served as head coach the last five. Bunting guided the Rams to a 53-40-7 record during the last five seasons, playing one of the most demanding schedules in the state. Gloucester Catholic reached the state semifinal round four times and won the Gordon Conference National Division Championship in 2018 under Bunting. The Rams went 9-10-1 this season.
“I want to thank Coach Bunting for the fabulous job he has done over the last 10 years leading our young men as an assistant and as a head coach the last five years,” school Principal Tom Iacovone said. “His teams have always competed at the highest level, ranking first in the state last year, which was a first in school history. Coach will be missed, but we wish him all the best moving forward, and I know we will still see him around GC hockey.”
Bunting also serves as the director of Hockey Operations at the Hollydell Ice Arena in Sewell.
It was announced April 13 that Matt Gaudreau, a 2013 alumni, has been hired as the new head coach.
