The grand opening for the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God Food Pantry, named Denise’s Food Pantry, took place on Jan. 22 on the organization’s main campus in Westville Grove.
The grand opening featured a ribbon cutting ceremony and blessing from Saint John of God Community Services director of mission and values and Westville Grove prior Brother Thomas Osorio.
According to Brother Tom, the need for a food pantry grew apparent during this past holiday season. During the holidays, Saint John of God Community Services gave away 200 food baskets, compared to only 22 from the previous year.
“When I saw this huge increase, I said ‘people are hungry.’ I knew that we needed to be able to provide relief to them in some way,” Brother Tom said.
