Seventh grade students at St. Michael the Archangel in Clayton participated in a three-day Watershed ambassador program. The students learned about watersheds, point and non-point pollution, benthic stream organisms, water quality and water sampling methods. The first two days provided the students with background information and activities giving them practice on identifying sources of pollution and how to identify types of stream organisms. On the third day the students conducted an actual stream assessment with samples that were brought to the classroom. With this certification the students can conduct their own stream assessments and share their results with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
