Gloucester Catholic High School’s Ninth Annual Ross-Kupcha Road Race was held Oct. 24 in National Park.
Bishop Dennis Sullivan blessed the field of runners as they began the race in front of the National Park Fire Hall.
Awards were given to first overall Male and Female and by Age Group; the Dave Williams award is given to the first Gloucester Catholic High School finishers, with other awards including the Browning Ross Style Prizes.
The overall winner was Gloucester Catholic cross country star Travis Finley, who clocked a time of 23:08.19. He was followed by Gloucester Catholic cross country teammate Sean Ward (second place) and GC coach Kate Ormsby (third).
The race is named in honor of Browning Ross, two-time Olympian from Woodbury and long-time track and cross country coach at Gloucester Catholic, and Bob Kupcha, one of Browning’s track athletes at Gloucester Catholic.
Another award within the race is named after Dave Williams, a 1937 GCHS graduate who went on to become one of the best runners on the East Coast before becoming a World War II hero.
Proceeds benefit Gloucester Catholic and the Camilla Hall Nursing Home.
