On Divine Mercy Sunday, April 3, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Lindenwold celebrated its third annual Romero Mass at Saint Lawrence Church.
The liturgy remembered the life of Blessed Oscar Romero, an archbishop serving in El Salvador, who was murdered while celebrating Mass in 1980.
“As the majority of the parish’s Latino community come from El Salvador, the day provided an opportunity for them to remember their countryman’s tireless efforts to aid the poor and disenfranchised in his country,” said Father Joseph Capella, pastor.
Two priests from El Salvador celebrated the Mass with Father Capella: Father Jeivi Hercules of Newark and Father Mauricio Henrriquez, currently ministering in El Salvador.
After the Mass, a cousin of Blessed Romero, with the New Jersey Consul General of El Salvador, and other members of the Consulate General of El Salvador, provided the faithful with a presentation on his life and mission.
