The Catholic Star Herald highlights the Diocese’s student athletes who stood out during the month of September.

Sadie Arasim

Paul VI High School, Haddonfield

Volleyball

It seems Sadie Arasim plans on making her final season on the Paul VI High School girls volleyball team her very best. The senior outside hitter has already surpassed her career high in kills with 112 in the month of September and has 265 in an Eagles’ uniform during her four years. Arasim, the lone senior on the team, has also contributed 48 digs and 20 aces, pricing just as valuable on the back line. Paul VI was 11-2 and a perfect 4-0 in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division heading into October.

Aidan Davis

Saint Augustine Preparatory School, Richland

Soccer

As the weather turns colder, Aidan Davis is heating up. After scoring just two goals in his first six games of the year, Davis has picked up the pace by depositing five goals in his final three games of the month to lead the Hermits with seven tallies so far. Sitting atop the team’s score sheet is nothing new to the Saint Augustine senior, as he led the team in goals by a wide margin with 14 last season. Davis has helped the Hermits compile an 8-1 record in the month of September, leading the Cape Atlantic National Division with a 6-0 record.

Jessica Haddad

Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Newfield

Tennis

Depth is certainly playing a role in the Our Lady of Mercy’s tennis team’s success this fall. Look no further than second singles, where senior Jessica Haddad has locked down an almost automatic point each match for the Villagers over the last two years. Haddad is 8-3 on the season and has won seven of her last eight contests to help OLMA race out to a 9-2 overall record through September, as the Villagers hope to pursue another postseason championship after capturing the Southwest Region E title last year.

Ella Petrosh

Holy Spirit High School, Absecon

Soccer

Ella Petrosh’s season has started off with a bang. In just six games in September, the Spartans’ sensational sophomore has netted 15 of her team’s 26 goals, accounting for nearly 60 percent of her team’s total offensive production. Holy Spirit (5-1 record through September) has taken full advantage as the Spartans remain in contention in the Cape Atlantic League’s United Division. Petrosh has recorded a remarkable four hat tricks this season and has only been held off the scoresheet once so far. Holy Spirit is off to its best start since 2017, when it also started 5-1.

Alex Senior

Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, Pennsauken

Field Hockey

Even for Alex Senior, this can be considered a blazing start. The Bishop Eustace senior had 52 goals coming into her final year but has started the 2021 season at a goal-scoring pace, surpassing her own previous efforts. Senior found the cage 17 times in September to lead all players from South Jersey Catholic schools. Senior finished off the month with a four-goal game in a 5-0 win over Collingswood.

Adding nine assists this season, Senior has recorded a point on 65 percent of all Crusaders’ goals. Bishop Eustace is 7-3 on the season.

Elijah Steward

Holy Spirit High School, Absecon

Football

Elijah Steward is keeping opposing coaches up long hours trying to figure out how to stop him. The Holy Spirit High School senior wide receiver has been nearly unstoppable this season with 19 catches, 310 yards and five touchdowns in his first four games. After an opening night loss to DeMatha Catholic High School of Maryland, the Spartans picked up right where they left off last year, pummeling New Jersey opponents with three straight wins. Steward and the Spartans have beaten 15 straight N.J. teams dating back to November 2019, and he eclipsed 1,000 career receiving yards earlier this season.
