Hundreds filled Most Precious Blood Parish, West Collingswood, and the school gym the morning of Jan. 30 as Bishop Dennis Sullivan celebrated Mass and honored Vietnamese New Year. Also known as Tet, Vietnamese New Year – which is Feb. 1 – marks the first day of the lunar new year. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger.
Father Joseph An Nguyen, parish pastor, and faithful of all generations enjoyed fireworks, food and costumed dances after Mass.

Parishioner Tam Nguyen said she enjoyed seeing “everyone, especially the youth and kids in traditional attire. It’s been a long time since our community could come together because of COVID.”
That was the case for Han Nguyen, who returned to her home parish after being away at college in Pennsylvania the past few months. She served as a lector during the bilingual Mass, reading in English, and her father served as a lector, reading in Vietnamese.
“I just had to come back and celebrate,” she explained, expressing her excitement of seeing her family, friends and parish community once again.
