Support from generous donors to the South Jersey Scholarship Fund provided 126 students with partial scholarships for the academic year 2022-23. The Diocese’s Office of Catholic Schools received a $100,000 check from the SJSF prior to the start of the school year, which was distributed to schools to help with the need for tuition assistance.
That income was raised primarily through SJSF’s fundraising campaign, the Spring Sprint for Scholarships.
“We’re very grateful to receive the allocation from the South Jersey Scholarship fund. It helps ensure that students whose families are under financial strain are able to remain in our school. That makes a world of difference to parents whose priority is providing a Catholic education for their children,” said Sister Nancy Kindelan, IHM, principal of Saint Teresa School, Runnemede.
Enabling students to attend elementary or secondary schools operated in the Diocese of Camden is exactly SJSF’s purpose.
“These economic times are challenging with increased prices for groceries, gas and utilities, plus high interest rates for loans. Affording the full Catholic school tuition is not easy for many families,” said Christine Messina, vice president of the SJSF Board of Trustees. “That makes the South Jersey Scholarship Fund needed now more than ever. The other board members and I appreciate the commitment of donors who enable us to carry out our mission.”
