About 50 pilgrims have been walking in the footsteps of Jesus since Feb. 9, traveling with Bishop Dennis Sullivan; Father Robert Hughes, Vicar General for the Diocese and Moderator of the Curia; and Father Raymond Gormley, pastor of Incarnation Parish, Mantua, on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Every day of their journey has been shared with the Catholic Star Herald, not just through photos, but with faithful, moving and humorous travelogues by Talking Catholic co-host Mike Walsh.
“The pilgrims have all been touched in different ways. I know I have a much greater appreciation for our faith because of what I’ve learned here,” said Walsh, associate publisher of the Catholic Star Herald and diocesan director of communications.
Among the places visited: the Church of the Holy Sepulchre; the Jordan River, Mount Tabor, the Via Dolorosa (Way of the Cross); the Basilica of the Nativity, home to the place of Jesus’s birth, which was entered through the Humility Door, a very small doorway that anyone under 4 feet tall would need to bend over to get through, and much more. Plus, many of the pilgrims, diehard Philadelphia Eagles fans, were awake at 1:30 a.m. Feb. 12 to cheer on their team in the Super Bowl! While some pilgrims returned home Feb. 18, others continued on to Assisi and Rome.
