Sister Ann Patricia Woods of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, former principal at St. Rose of Lima School, Haddon Heights, died Dec. 11 in Mount Vernon, N.Y., at the age of 99.
The daughter of the late James Francis and Mary Anna Tanian Woods, she was born Dec. 18, 1911, in Philadelphia.
Sister Ann Patricia entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh on Sept. 6, 1929, and made her first profession on June 23, 1931, and her final profession on Aug. 20, 1937. She earned her B.S. and M.A. in history from Villanova University in Philadelphia.
She served at St. Rose of Lima for a total of 45 years, first as a teacher, from 1944-47 and again from 1948-59. Sister Ann Patricia was principal there from 1959-65, and 1969-73. From 1975-95, she was an administrative aide at the school.
In the Diocese of Camden, she also taught at St. Lawrence School, Lindenwold, from 1965-69.
Elsewhere, she taught at St. Augustine School, Larchmont, N.Y.; St. Joseph Elementary, Toms River, N.J.; Our Lady of Victory, Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; and St. Elizabeth, Elizabeth City, N.C.
Sister Ann Patricia also did volunteer pastoral service at St. Lawrence Convent in Lindenwold from 1995-97. When she retired to the Dominican Sisters of Hope Newburgh Center in 1997, she began part-time volunteer ministry in the congregation development office.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and their families.
A funeral was held on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Mount St. Mary Chapel in Newburgh, N.Y. Burial was in the Dominican Sisters’ Cemetery at Mount St. Mary.
