Father Richard J. Lodge will retire May 1, Bishop Joseph A. Galante announced.
Father Lodge, 68, last served as pastor of Transfiguration Parish, West Collingswood, a position he held from 1997 until Dec. 7, 2011, when the parish merged with Immaculate Heart of Mary, Woodlynne, to form Most Precious Blood Parish.
Born in Atlantic City, Father Lodge grew up in South Jersey and attended Christ the King Seminary, St. Bonaventure, N.Y. He was ordained by Bishop George H. Guilfoyle on May 31, 1969, at St. Joseph Pro-Cathdedal, Camden.
He served as parochial vicar at Incarnation Parish, Mantua, 1969-73; Our Lady of Grace, Somerdale, 1973-78; St. Paul, Stone Harbor, 1978; St. Augustine, Ocean City, 1978-80; St. Francis of Assisi, Vineland, 1980-85; St. Rose of Lima, Haddon Heights, 1985-89; and St. Joan of Arc, Camden, 1989-97.
He also worked for many years with youth in Camden and Gloucester counties as CYO director and youth ministry coordinator.
