The faithful of South Jersey are invited to join Bishop Dennis Sullivan, clergy and religious Oct. 26 for the Diocese of Camden’s biennial Marian Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

Pilgrims experiencing the “grace-filled day [will] go with their prayer intentions and needs and offer them up to God, through the intercession of the Blessed Mother,” the patroness of the country and Diocese of Camden, said Father James Bartoloma, director of the diocesan Marian Commission.

Remarking that the day will have “something for everyone,” he said the pilgrimage will include a multilingual recitation of the rosary; a concert of sacred music with diocesan music ministers and choirs; opportunities for the Sacrament of Confession, and a procession of parishes. The program will conclude with Mass celebrated by Bishop Sullivan, which is appropriate during this National Eucharistic Revival, Father Bartoloma said.

“With the Bishop of the Diocese surrounded by his people on pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady at the table of the Lord, I can’t think of anything more Eucharistic,” said Father Bartoloma, pastor of Church of the Holy Family, Sewell.

There will also be time to explore the beauty of the shrine, with its Byzantine architecture and Trinity Dome mosaic of the saints, which “lift our hearts and minds to the things of God,” Father Bartoloma said, along with its “greatest gift” – the many chapels and altars that reflect how the Blessed Mother is honored around the world.

He continued, “In a world with so much tension, we need things that give us hope. The pilgrimage will impact individuals, families and communities.”

Those wishing to take part in the Diocese of Camden’s Marian Pilgrimage can contact their parish community for more information, including transportation.
