This week, the 30 elementary and 10 secondary schools in the Diocese of Camden opened their doors and welcomed in students for a new year of learning.
Many teachers, administrators and staff have been preparing for the new year since late August, and elementary school children entered their new classrooms for the first time on Wednesday, Sept. 5.
For students, the countdown to summer 2013 has begun, 180 school days away.
For some parents, it is the most wonderful time of the year.
Regardless of these sentiments, the yellow busses are gassed up, the uniforms are pressed, the shoes are shined, the smell of freshly-pressed contact paper on textbooks is in the air, and the number 2 pencils are sharpened. Children are beginning their day with prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance.
This year, five schools welcome the arrival of new principals.
Dr. Mary R. Burke (St. Anthony of Padua, Camden); Elsie Tedeski (Holy Trinity, Westville Grove); Anne Hartman (Christ the King, Haddonfield); Dr. Albert Monillas (Sacred Heart High School, Vineland); and Heather Crisci (Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill) are all stepping into new offices, eager and able to lead their faculty, in continuing to provide quality Catholic education to students, as all diocesan schools accomplish.
Quizzes, finals, science projects, halloween parties, school plays, math bowls, and school sports all await students, parents and faculty this year.
