Parish hosts prayer night for autism

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – An interdenominational prayer night for autism was held May 15 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish on the Assumption site.
“We would like to make this into a yearly event,” said Patti Price, the coordinator of the prayer night. Father Nicholas Dudo, pastor, and Deacon Frank Cerullo orchestrated the prayer service, she noted.
“It was open to all families that are impacted by autism,” she explained. “The many families and friends in attendance enjoyed a beautiful service just for their children who are affected. It was nice to have prayers just for them.”
Besides the prayer service, a video was shown that included the pictures and names of children from the area who have autism, said Price.
“The pictures were submitted by family members of the children both in attendance and those who could not attend,” she said. “No child was left out of the presentation.”
The children who were at the prayer service, “were free to express themselves and interact with the other children and family members in attendance,” Price added.
According to William Stillman in his book, “Autism and the God Connection,” autism is a neurological difference in the way the brain is “wired.”
“There is no single known cause,” Stillman wrote. “Autism primarily affects one’s ability to communicate in ways that are effective, reliable and universally understandable.”
