For his Eagle Scout project Thomas J. Seddon, 14, helped build this memorial garden for the Church of St. Bridget in Glassboro.
Thomas J. Seddon, a Life Scout from the Boy Scout Troop 55 in Pitman, recently completed his Eagle Project, a memorial garden for the Church of St. Bridget in Glassboro.
Thomas, 14, is a freshman at Paul VI High School in Haddon Township. His grandfather, John J. McElroy Sr., who died in 2011, was a long-time parishioner of the church. Thomas wanted to memorialize him by creating a quiet place for prayer and remembrance for all the parishioners.
As part of his project, Thomas sold some 130 memorial bricks to parishioners who wanted to remember their loved one in the garden. A handicapped accessible memorial brick pathway was created leading into the garden.
With donations from family members and parishioners, Thomas was able to purchase two recycled plastic benches for the garden. Other donations of supplies and materials were donated by Lowe’s, Home Depot, Eaise Design and Landscaping, Exley’s Landscaping, Groff’s Nursery, Brida Stone and the Gloucester County Mulch Factory. An anonymous donor donated a praying angel statue that sits at the top of the pathway.
