SEWELL – Here at Lazy Lanigan’s on Oct. 8, as guest speaker for the Diocese of Camden’s monthly Theology on Tap, Father Kevin Mohan explained to the 60 young adults gathered “How I Met Your Mother.”
The “mother” he referred to was the Blessed Mother, and the parochial vicar from Our Lady of Peace Parish in Williamstown recounted his journey to the priesthood, and Mary’s grace and comfort along the way, as 20- and 30-somethings enjoyed the free buffet and the bar’s seasonal spirits.
Entering the seminary in 2003, right after high school, Father Mohan thought he didn’t want to become a priest and left after two and a half years.
However, in 2007, while attending Mass at St. Agnes Church in Blackwood, Father Mohan was singled out among the packed congregation and asked by a visiting priest giving the evening’s homily if he wanted to become a priest.
Father Mohan realized that God was trying to get his attention, and after a semester abroad in Europe brought him to the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) in Paris, and to the French Alps, where he experienced God’s beauty and prayed to the Blessed Mother, he re-entered the seminary. He was ordained this past May.
Gregory Coogan, director of Young Adult Ministries for the Diocese of Camden, said Father Mohan’s talk created an atmosphere of spirituality at Lazy Lanigan’s for the young adults at all different points in the faith journey, who gathered in faith and fellowship.
“Young adults liked his personal message about his journey, his vocation,” said Coogan, adding that Father Mohan shared how “Mary’s faith, influenced his own faith.”
A discussion series for young adults and their friends, married and single, in their late teens, 20s and 30s, Theology on Tap is sponsored by the Diocese of Camden’s Young Adult and Campus Ministries, and will next be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 7 p.m., at Dubh Linn Square in Cherry Hill.
