On Oct. 19, at the Ramada Inn in Vineland, Andrés Arango, director of Evangelization for the Diocese of Camden and the Bishop’s Delegate for Hispanic Ministry, was presented with DH/Perfil Latino, TV’s Adelante! Hispanic Heritage and Multicultural Award, for “serving the Hispanic community of South Jersey, particularly supporting the Latino immigrant community…and promoting respect for human dignity.”
Among others honored were Ana Luz Batista (Religious Educational Leader) of Divine Mercy Parish, Vineland; Maribel Santos (Businesswoman Community leader) of Holy Cross, Bridgeton; and Rose Soto (Medical Professional Leader Community Services) of St. Bridget, Glassboro.
DH/Perfil Latino TV, inc., based in South Jersey, is a non-profit organization that focuses on community health awareness and strives to educate the community on how to live better.
At the organization’s first public fundraising event, DH/Perfil Latino TV, Inc. also noted Arango’s work in making “visible the diversity of cultures within the Latino community itself, organizing events in which one can see the different traditions of the Catholic faith in Latin American and Caribbean countries,” and how Arango “has been involved in the development of Latino leaders to become involved in ministry in different parishes of the Diocese of Camden, who in turn put at the service of God their talents and gifts for the good of the whole community.”
In accepting the award, Arango gave his thanks, but he said that the honor not only recognized his talents but the “work of the bishop and so many priests, deacons, religious brothers and sisters, and lay ministers in the Diocese of Camden.”
The award was presented by Harry Paraison, executive director at DH/Perfil Latino TV Inc.
