The New Jersey Knights of Columbus kicked off their 130th annual convention May 15 with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Joseph Williams at Saint Ann Church, Notre Dame de la Mer Parish, Wildwood. In his homily, Bishop Williams discussed encounter and evangelization, saying that many Catholics “are afraid to speak of Jesus, more afraid than most other Christians” because they feel they are not “expert” enough. However, fear not, as every Catholic man and woman can talk about Jesus in their own way. “The people who need Jesus are looking for what you know about Him. They’re looking for the hope you have, the happiness in your marriage, the light in your eyes, the generosity of your spirit.”
The Mass was concelebrated by Bishop Kurt Burnette, Eparch of Passaic, and parish pastor Father Cadmus Mazzarella. The two-day convention also included Adoration, awards and reports, nominations and election of officers, and comments from the fraternal organization’s dignitaries, including State Deputy James Sweeney, seen at right, and its associate state chaplain, Father Ernest Rush.
