The Parish Youth Organization of Saint Mary of Mount Carmel is beginning the first in a planned series of “outreach initiatives to families and young people” in Hammonton, says Father David Rivera, pastor.
Beginning next month, the first includes not only a youth basketball skills clinic, but academic guidance on post-high school futures and scholarship prep, and decision-making classes on leadership, teamwork, discipline and work ethic.
The 16 Saturday sessions from May 1-Aug. 28, for boys and girls in grades 3-12, will be led by Steve Salvo, a former coach/recruitment director for San Diego State University, as well as a guidance counselor at South Jersey-area schools. The physical, academic and decision-making skills that will be taught are what he calls the “Triangle of Success.”
“We want to be a resource for the community,” Father Rivera continued.
For the 16-week course, the cost is $200 for those in grades 3 and 4, and $300 for those in grades 5-12. To sign up, visit the parish website at www.smmcp.net, or their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/smmcpyouthorg. Any questions, call Steve Salvo at 609-666-3510.
