Athletes of the Month – September 2025

The Catholic Star Herald highlights the Diocese’s student athletes who stood out during the month of September.

Nymir Daily

Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill

Football

Nymir Daily has made Camden Catholic one of the most feared ground attacks in South Jersey high school football this season.

The junior running back ran for 589 yards on 110 attempts in September and scored five touchdowns while also catching five passes for 44 yards.

Entering October, Daily was just 72 yards shy of eclipsing 2,000 rushing yards for his career. He went for more than 150 rushing yards in back-to-back games this season as he racked up 152 yards and three touchdowns against Paulsboro on Sept. 12, followed by a 165-yard, two-touchdown performance against West Deptford a week later.

Dani Daley

Wildwood Catholic Academy, North Wildwood

Soccer

No one was able to figure out how to stop Dani Daley during the month of September.

The Wildwood Catholic Academy sophomore put up record-breaking numbers on the soccer field as the Crusaders enjoyed a seven-game winning streak to start their 2025 season.

Daley scored 21 goals and added 12 assists in the first seven games of the season, which included five hat tricks. Daley opened the season with a three-goal effort in a 4-3 win over rival Wildwood High School and has scored at least two goals in every match this season. She played a role in every goal Sept. 4 in an 8-0 victory over Buena with five goals and three assists.

Grace Gutowski

Paul VI High School, Haddonfield

Cross Country

Grace Gutowski is off to a fast start in the 2025 cross country season.

The Paul VI High School junior took sixth place at the 35th annual Briarwood Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on Sept. 13, helping the Eagles win the girls team title. Gutowski ran the 5,000-meter course in 20:09 to lead Paul VI to its second straight title, winning by 25 points.

Gutowski followed up with another strong performance three days later at the Olympic Conference Batch Meet at DREAM Park in Logan Township. Gutowski led a 1-2-3 Paul VI sweep in 18:52, followed by Giovanna Mantuano and Isabella Suarez.

Jayden Kurtz

Holy Spirit High School, Absecon

Soccer

Jayden Kurtz burst onto the scene last year as a freshman scoring a team-best seven goals in his rookie campaign for the Holy Spirit High School boys soccer team.

This season, Kurtz is finding another level as he scored the lone goal in a 1-1 tie with Buena on Sept. 24 before scoring both goals in a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph Academy, Hammonton, on the final day of the month.

Kurtz, who stands at 6-foot-4, led the Spartans in both goals (four) and assists (five) during September, as Holy Spirit pieced together a 5-4-1 record.

Hailey Mack

Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, Pennsauken

Volleyball

The Bishop Eustace girls volleyball team reeled off eight straight wins to start the season and was able to celebrate a significant milestone for Hailey Mack along the way.

Mack, a senior, recorded her 500th kill on Sept. 16 in a 2-0 win over Haddonfield to become the first player in the program’s history to reach that number.

Last season, Mack racked up 274 kills, and she’s well on her way to matching those totals with 110 kills in her first 10 matches.

Mack has led the Crusaders in kills all four years of her high school career and sat at 547 heading into the month of October.

Vivian Mannon

Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester City

Field Hockey

It didn’t take long for Vivian Mannon to etch her name in the Gloucester Catholic history books.

The freshman field hockey goalie tied a school record with a 19-save effort in a 4-1 loss against undefeated South Jersey power Vineland on Sept. 4.

In September, Mannon backstopped the Rams to a 5-3 record and recorded four shutouts along the way. In her high school debut, Mannon made nine saves as the Rams defeated Cumberland, 3-2, in overtime on the strength of a Julia Calzonetti hat trick.
