Following the recommendation of the Bishop’s Commission on Catholic Schools, Bishop Sullivan has established the Inter-parochial Catholic School Funding Committee. The first meeting of this committee will be on May 17, at the Bishop’s Residence. One pastor from each deanery has been appointed by Bishop Sullivan to this committee. They are as follows:
Deanery 1: Rev. E. Joseph Byerley
Deanery 2: Rev. Michael J. Matveenko
Deanery 3: Rev. Raymond P. Gormley
Deanery 4: Rev. Nicholas Dudo
Deanery 5: Rev. Joseph A. Perreault
Father Perreault will serve as chair.
In this coming year, parish support monies will be pooled for school support in the Inter-Parochial School Fund. In this first year of implementation, support dollars for each school have been committed at the same level as this year’s support level. The Inter-parochial Committee will review the allocation of monies from the Inter-parochial Support Fund and begin to establish policies for subsequent years’ distributions, as well as recommending policies regarding responsibilities for capital expenditures for school facilities.
As part of the implementation strategies flowing from “Forming Minds and Hearts in Grace,” the School Action Committee, an internal working group from several diocesan departments, has been meeting to review each elementary school’s current status with respect to financial budgeting, enrollment management and past histories. With this information each school, benchmarks in this areas have been established for each of the elementary schools.
