CAMDEN – Bishop Joseph A. Williams celebrated the Easter Vigil at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden, the most sacred and solemn liturgy of the Church year.
The Easter Vigil begins in darkness, symbolizing the world before Christ, and is illuminated by the outdoor lighting of the Paschal Candle — reminding all that Jesus is the Light of the World. The celebration continues with the Liturgy of the Word, the blessing of water, and the renewal of baptismal promises.

In a moment of profound joy, two men of the Cathedral parish, William Alvelo and Miguel Santiago, were welcomed into the Catholic Church.
Speaking to William and Miguel, Bishop Williams remarked in his homily, “You have come here tonight and witnessed for yourself that the tomb is empty. What does God tell you tonight, like the holy angels [in the Gospel]? ‘Now go and tell your brothers.’ Once you are confirmed, you, too, become apostles. You have to go and tell your brothers that the tomb is empty. Jesus is alive! And if you do that, the Church will be fruitful and will multiply.”
