The nation’s oldest Catholic retreat center is hosting an early morning gathering to celebrate the canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis.
On April 27, from 3-6:30 a.m., those of all ages are invited to the Malvern Retreat House to watch live the Mass and canonization ceremony from Rome. Bring chairs, blankets, coffee and snacks and gather under the stars on the center’s main lawn for the simulcast.
The event also will include the celebration of Mass, veneration of a first-class relic of Blessed Carlo and a visit to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s official Shrine to Carlo Acutis, which is located on Malvern’s property.
It also offers the opportunity to receive a Jubilee Year Indulgence, as his canonization coincides with the 2025 Holy Year, designated by Pope Francis as a Jubilee Year of Hope. As part of the canonization celebration, attendees who fulfill the necessary conditions – including receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, attending Mass, receiving the Eucharist and praying for the pope’s intentions – may obtain the Jubilee Year Indulgence, a grace that remits the temporal punishment due to sin.
Carlo Acutis, known as the “Millennial Saint,” was known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and his skill in using technology to spread the faith. He died from leukemia in 2006 at age 15.
Malvern Retreat House is located at 315 S. Warren Ave., Malvern, Pa., 19355. Space is limited; to reserve a spot, email kmoulter@malvernretreat.com or visit www.malvernretreat.com.
