Father Adam Cichoski, rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Camden, will be serving as the padrino – or godfather – of the Parada San Juan Bautista on June 30.
Named for the patron Saint of Puerto Rico, the annual, family-oriented tradition starts with the parade at noon, and is followed by a day of music, dancing, food, exhibits and more.
Earlier this month, Camden’s Cathedral hosted the Parada San Juan Bautista Inc.’s Distinguished Citizens Luncheon in Cathedral Hall. Father Cichoski offered the invocation for the event. Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen also attended to thank the distinguished guests for the commitment to the city. The luncheon honors seniors who have dedicated their lives to making Camden County a better place.
The festivities were part of a month-long series of events surrounding the Parada San Juan Bautista, founded in 1957 under Father Leonard Carrieri, former pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Fatima Churches in Camden.
The 67th annual parade, which is open to the public, will process from 7th & Elm Street to Riverside Drive. Post-parade festivities will continue until 8 p.m. at Wiggins Waterfront Park, 2 Riverside Dr. For more information, go to http://sjbp.org.
