Deacon Harold Traxler, of Blackwood, died Saturday, July 25, at the age of 75.
Born in Philadelphia, on April 3, 1934, Traxler served in the Navy, and worked many years as a photographer.
He was ordained a deacon in the Camden Diocese on Oct. 4, 1980, by Bishop George H. Guilfoyle, and served at St. John Vianney Parish, Deptford; St. Agnes, Blackwood; St. Rose of Lima, Newfield; and Nativity, Franklinville.
In 1994, he and his family relocated to the Diocese of Charleston, S.C . where he served at various parishes. In 2007, he returned to the Camden Diocese.
Deacon Traxler and his wife, Margaret, were active in Marriage Encounter and the Charismatic Renewal, as well as the Discovery and Horizon youth retreats.
He was the son of the late Harold G., Sr. and Lillian A. (nee Callahan). In addition to his wife, Margaret P. (nee Ryan), he is survived by children Harold G., III (Linda); Maureen P. May (Joseph); Janine M. Graham (David); Dianne M. Dunleavy (Frank); John J.; Ashley M. Traxler (Tre); and Amanda J. Traxler; 22 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A viewing will be held Aug. 1, at St. John Vianney Church, 2901 Good Intent Road, Deptford, starting at 8 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. and interment is at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
