Deacon John Colanero, 90, of Paulsboro, a retired deacon of the Diocese of Camden, died Sept. 26.
Ordained a deacon May 12, 2007, by Bishop Joseph A. Galante, his first assignment was at Saint John the Evangelist Parish, Paulsboro. When the faith community became Saint Clare of Assisi Parish, he remained there until retiring in 2014.
He was predeceased by his wife, Connie; his parents, Stefano and Serafina Colanero; and siblings Angela DiPietro and Don and Anne Colanero.
He is survived by his children, Stephen Colanero of Wilmot, N.H.; Sarah Foulke (Robert) of Sicklerville; Teresa Colanero of Paulsboro, and Christina Thompson (Peter) of Beaver, Pa.; his grandchildren, Nico Cimino of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Rebecca Young (Lane) of San Antonio, Texas, and Annette Thompson of Boulder, Colo.; his great-grandchild, Theo Young of San Antonio, Texas; and his sister, Mary Robertson of Marlton.
A viewing will be held 9-11 a.m. Sept. 30 at Saint Michael Church (Saint Clare of Assisi Parish), 313 Memorial Ave., Gibbstown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial.
