The Diocese of Camden will welcome two new shepherds this month, as Rev. Mr. Timothy Mulranen and Rev. Mr. Thomas Piro are ordained to the priesthood.
On May 17, Bishop Joseph A. Williams will celebrate an Ordination Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish, 500 Greentree Road, Glassboro.
The celebration will be livestreamed on all diocesan social media channels, as well as at catholicstarherald.org, and youtube.com/camdendiocese. All are welcome to attend.
Rev. Mr. Mulranen’s home parish is Incarnation, Mantua; Rev. Mr. Piro is from Notre Dame de la Mer Parish, Wildwood. The men, who are both 26, are completing their studies at Saint Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, N.Y.
Throughout their formation, the two have shared their discernment journeys with the Catholic Star Herald and in blog posts.
“All of us are called to imitate Christ, and what better way to imitate Him than by doing what He did during his Agony: to be submissive fully to God’s will,” Rev. Mr. Mulranen wrote in a blog post titled “Not as I will, but you will.”
“It is also important to remember that if it is God’s will for me to become a priest, I also have to be submissive to how he wants me to achieve this … vocation, and that’s the hard part! That is why my brother seminarians and I need the prayers of all the faithful.”
In a column for the Catholic Star Herald last year titled, “Readying to be a conduit of God’s Word,” Rev. Mr. Piro wrote of leaning on the Lord at all times. “If I place my trust in myself, I’m not going to be effective. If I give everything to God, He will do marvelous things with me.” Both men will celebrate their first Masses as priests of the Diocese on May 18. Father Mulranen’s first Mass will be at 3 p.m. at Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main St., Mantua. Father Piro’s first Mass will be at 11 a.m. at Saint Ann Church, Notre Dame de la Mer Parish, 2901 Atlantic Ave., Wildwood.
