Trevor Leone talks big and his actions are louder.
There’s nothing the Gloucester Catholic senior lacrosse player enjoys more than getting his team riled up for a big game.
“I like getting into the game early,” said Leone, a three-sport athlete who also plays football and ice hockey. “When my team is all fired up, I want to be in the head of that and get them fired up with me.”
He’s got a lot to shout about this season. Leone is the Rams’ top scorer and he notched his 100th career goal April 16 in a game against Sterling High School. Since that game, Leone added 18 goals to his totals, including a four-goal game at West Deptford on April 17 and arguably his biggest game as Ram – a five-goal, two-assist outing in a 9-7 win over Vineland on April 29. He had another 4-goal game May 2 in a 12-6 win over Highland.
“I didn’t really think I was going to be able to get [100 career goals] until last year when I started getting a little closer,” Leone said. “This year, that was one of my main goals.”
Leone was given a chance early under former coach Angelo Montenegro, and he flourished under first-year coach Doug Hagan.
“I think it was a great experience playing at Gloucester Catholic,” Leone said. “I’ve been starting since I was a freshman and been able to develop. [Here], you know everybody, and you get your best friends to come out and play and have a great time.”
Leone and Hagan already knew each other, too, as Leone is a student in Hagan’s art class. “He’s one of the guys we depend on every single day,” Hagan said. “He’s one of the four captains. He’s the guy that leads us in goals. He does a lot out there.”

Leone plans to enter the carpenters union after graduating from Gloucester Catholic this spring. He had considered college, but felt a trade was more in his wheelhouse.
Leone was a winger on the ice hockey team and a fullback on the football team. It can be tough to find time to practice lacrosse when the other demanding sports are in season. But Leone always finds a time and a place.
“I did play some club lacrosse, too,” Leone said. “But there are fields everywhere. You go out and find a wall and pass to yourself.”
Gloucester Catholic was 6-8 through May 11, matching their best win total since 2021. Leone enjoys being one of the captains at the forefront. And he loves being vocal.
“He brings the energy,” Hagan said. “He’s definitely one of the guys everyone looks to for a bit of motivation and enthusiasm. And he really knows the game.”
