The Diocese of Camden’s parishioners are being thanked for their generosity toward the 2021 Retirement Fund for Religious collection.
The collection, which was held Dec. 11-12, 2021, raised $154,978.46 for religious communities across the country to care for aging members.
“We are very grateful to you and your parishioners for your generous support of our mission,” Sister Stephanie Still, PBVM, executive director of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ National Religious Retirement Office, wrote in a letter to Bishop Dennis Sullivan.
To date, the Diocese of Camden has contributed $6,568,735.08 to the fund, which was launched about 35 years ago.
Proceeds from the collection offer support for medications, nursing care, and other day-to day-necessities for retired religious men and women, many of whom served for little to no pay. A portion also underwrites programming and education that promote long-term retirement planning. These resources focus on helping communities to reduce costs, enhance eldercare and identify additional sources of income. Nearly 30,000 religious older than 70 benefit from the appeal; 321 religious communities received funding in 2021.
