Father William C. Pierce, who served the Diocese of Camden for nearly four decades as an educator and parish priest, will retire Nov. 1.
Father Pierce, 67, has been pastor of St. John Bosco Parish, Millville, since June 2000 and previously was pastor of St. Joan of Arc, Camden, 1998-2000.
Before becoming a pastor, Father Pierce spent many years in Catholic education as a religion teacher. He was a member of the faculty of Paul VI High School, Haddon Township, 1974-83, and Gloucester Catholic High School, 1983-95.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Father Pierce attended the University of Dayton; Glassboro State (now Rowan University); Mount St. Mary’s, Emmitsburg, Md.; and St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook, Pa.
He was ordained May 22, 1971, in Camden.
Father Pierce served as parochial vicar of St. Ann Parish, Wildwood, 1971-74, and St. Matthew, National Park, 1995-98.
While teaching he also served at St. Maurice Parish, Brooklawn, 1974-75; Christ the King, Haddonfield, 1975-84; St. John, Paulsboro, 1984-88; and Holy Family, Washington Township, 1988-95.
