Aspire Youth Development is hosting a three-day construction camp for female high school students this summer.
The Nailed It! Summer Construction Camp will provide rising sophomores, juniors and seniors a “hands-on introduction to the trades through interactive activities in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and construction safety,” according to a recent press release. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about these “high-paying, in-demand skilled trades careers” from industry professionals.
“Our goal is to help young women see themselves as part of the construction industry, despite it traditionally being a male-dominated field,” said Tiffany Chamberlain, TACC-Empower coordinator at Aspire Youth Development.
The Nailed It! Summer Construction Camp is free to attend through funding from the New Jersey Department of Labor, and is held in partnership with the Associated Builders and Contractors of New Jersey (ABC-NJ).
“I truly believe this is a wonderful opportunity for these young women,” said Chamberlain. “Not only will they have a fun and memorable experience, but they’ll also gain hands-on exposure to the skilled trades and discover career paths they may not have previously considered.”
The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 4-6 at ABC-NJ, 116 Gaither Drive, Mount Laurel. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Female high school students from Camden, Gloucester, and Burlington counties are eligible to attend. For more information, contact Tiffany Chamberlain at (609) 968-3796 or tiffany@aspireyouth.com.
