On Oct. 14, 106 years after the Blessed Virgin Mary’s final appearance at Fatima, 22,000 parishes nationwide participated in a Rosary Rally wherein laity began praying at noon. Among these parishes was Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Galloway, which hosted a local gathering to help spread the word of the Virgin Mary and pray for world peace.

Kathleen Garcia, coordinator for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program at the parish, was instrumental in planning the event. She said 75 people of all ages and various cultural backgrounds as well as Knights of Columbus and students gathered at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Highway, Sea and Air in Pomona, despite the forecast for rain.

“I feel very blessed that the rain did not start until we were finished,” she said. “It was a wonderful event. Children from Assumption [Regional Catholic School] put on a flower procession and placed a crown on the statue of the Blessed Mother.”
Amidst the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia and Israel and Palestine, the need for prayer and penance is as timely as ever, according to the America Needs Fatima campaign, which organized the nationwide rally. The America Needs Fatima campaign brings the word of the Blessed Mother into people’s homes and the public square by distributing millions of rosaries, calendars and other devotional items annually to people all across America.
