Editor’s Note: November is the Month of Remembrance in the Catholic Church, starting with Nov. 1, All Saints’ Day, and Nov. 2, All Souls’ Day.

Deadlines are often behind accomplishing life’s tasks, and as deadlines approach, the feeling of stress can increase. Having the appropriate tools goes a long way in helping people reach their goal quicker and more successfully while reducing deadline tension.

With this in mind, we at South Jersey Catholic Cemeteries have created a new interactive guide to help you make decisions when it comes to your funeral and final resting place.

Titled “A Planning Guide for a Catholic Funeral,” this resource explains Catholic teaching on death and burial, including cremation. It also explains the three parts of the Catholic funeral rite – the Vigil Service, the funeral Mass and the Rite of Committal –  and how each one provides comfort to you and your loved ones. It also provides guidance on how to handle funeral arrangements and execute a last will and testament.

Additionally, there is a section with fillable fields that explains how you would like to be buried, cremation or full body, including your wishes regarding all of your funeral preferences. Another part of the guide offers a place to provide details about personal and family history, legal, financial and social media information and additional considerations. All invaluable information is found in one document.

With this guide, your wishes are documented, and upon your death, your loved ones know exactly what you want and how to proceed. This reduces stress for you and your loved ones, as they will have a guide by which to follow your last wishes, which giving them more time to share memories and stories while comforting each other during their time of grief.

The free guide is downloadable at tinyurl.com/ezm9vu4s or by visiting South Jersey Catholic Cemeteries at SouthJerseyCatholicCemeteries.org. For more information, call 855-MyPrePlan (855-697-7375) or visit the website.

Debra Moore is marketing and events coordinator for South Jersey Catholic Cemeteries.
