On Jan. 19 the congregation of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd fused with the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, the order connected to St. John of God Community Services and Archbishop Damiano School in Westville Grove.
This “fusion” of the two religious orders saw the disappearance of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd as a formal religious entity. The Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd have now become Hospitaller Brothers of St. John of God.
The Hospitaller Order of St. John of God was founded with the mission to provide assistance for the sick and needy. The Brothers operate hospitals and other related health care and social services in 52 countries around the world.
Brother Thomas Osorio, OH, Prior in New Jersey, said, “This is an opportunity for us to draw upon the strengths that a much larger religious presence can offer to us including learning different approaches to supporting the sick and needy from around the globe.” He added, “The programs and services delivered to children and adults with special needs in our community through St. John of God Community Services and Archbishop Damiano School in New Jersey, will continue to provide quality services in the manner of St. John of God.”
The ceremony to celebrate the fusion of these two Orders took place in Albuquerque, N.M.
