At the Catholic Charities USA annual conference, held earlier this month in Boston, Kevin Hickey, executive director of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Camden, was installed as a trustee of the national organization.
In addition to Hickey, R. Neal Black from Hempstead, Maryland, and Sidney S. Simmons, II from Jacksonville, Florida, were also installed as trustees.
Catholic Charities USA’s Board of Trustees includes agency representatives elected by its Council of Diocesan Directors, independent members, participating observers and non-voting trustees, including an episcopal liaison from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Hickey’s responsibilities as a trustee will be in addition to his work at Catholic Charities, Diocese of Camden, where he has served at the helm for the past 15 years, garnering praise among colleagues both locally and across the country as an outstanding administrator, collaborator and innovator. In his new role, Hickey will help shape new programs and advocacy positions for Catholic Charities USA, and bring local perspective and experience to the organization’s national level governance.
The conference is also a working meeting, which saw 12 Catholic Charities, Diocese of Camden employees traveling to Boston to take part in the pre-eminent gathering of Catholic Charities professionals, volunteers and partners as they advance their work, strategize about poverty reduction, and celebrate their shared, Catholic social service identity. Forty workshops were made available for attendees with topics ranging from best practices in adoption to ways to improve refugee resettlement.
“While I am certainly honored to serve in this new capacity, I am even more pleased that so many of our local case managers were able to attend the conference and experience such quality interaction with our peers from across the country, which will only strengthen our service to their clients throughout South Jersey,” said Hickey.
