Our Pastor, Monsignor William Hodge reported that the parish collection had fallen off due to the cancellation of all Masses in our diocese during the pandemic.
As a council, we knew we needed to do something. Several ideas were considered. We decided to hold what we call a “Curbside Collection.”
Each Sunday, we have between four and six Brother Knights take up the weekly collection in front of the church. Everyone is wearing a mask, gloves and taking precautions to protect themselves and the parishioners. Cars drive by and drop their weekly offering into the collection basket safely, from their own car.
We made parishioners aware of our efforts using the church Facebook page, web site and pulpit announcements during the live stream of Mass. It has been a great success!
With collections back on track, the parish can continue the meal programs offered each day to those in need and many other charitable programs.
We started this effort in April, and will continue as long as needed.
