This year, the Little Servant Sisters of the Immaculate Conception rejoice and celebrate a very special milestone: 100 years of presence and service in the United States.
The Little Servant Sisters, founded in 1850 by Blessed Edmund Bojanowski, a saintly lay apostle and promoter of charitable works in Poland, have served in America since 1926. True to the charism of the congregation, our sisters have continued the daily implementation of the Gospel commandment to love God above all and to love one’s neighbor, manifested in imitating Mary, in prayer and service to those most in need – especially children, the poor and the sick. This has been accomplished with simplicity and communal love assuring blessing, reliant on the Holy Spirit’s guidance, as commended by our founder.
The little seed planted by the first Little Servant Sisters in 1926 in Reading, Pa., among children has grown with deep roots of prayer, courage and dedication, extending its branches to different apostolates including the sick and the elderly, to various places in the country, and with missionary chapters in Mexico, Philippines and Jamaica.
Our mission currently continues in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ by welcoming children in preschools and elementary school education; faith formation and sacramental preparation in parishes; caring for the poor and vulnerable; compassionately nursing the sick in their own homes; providing spiritual and medical support to residents in assisted living and in nursing homes; offering pastoral care, youth ministry and retreats for them and adults; creating a home away from home to college women; and furthermore, assisting and promoting awareness of our missions abroad in four African countries, Moldavia, Ukraine and Siberia. The beauty of the call of Jesus to the consecrated life is a reality with vocations from the United States, and from beyond.
Grateful to our esteemed bishops and clergy, our faithful friends and benefactors, from the beginning to the present time, as consecrated women we sing the Magnificat – Our Lady’s Canticle, thankful for God’s grace and work undertaken in all seasons and situations, and pray with our motto, “Through Mary to Jesus” for all!
Congratulations and abundant blessings to the Catholic Star Herald on its 75th anniversary of publication!
