Bishop Joseph Galante announces two pastor appointments:
— Msgr John Burton has been appointed pastor of Sacred Heart, Vineland, for a six-year term effective Sept. 1. He continues in his position as pastor of St. Isidore, Vineland, and as Convener in the merging of the parishes of Sacred Heart and St. Isidore.
— Father William Moore has been appointed pastor of St. Veronica, Delair, effective May 16. He continues as pastor of St. Cecilia, Pennsauken, and Convener in the merging of the parishes of St. Cecilia and St. Veronica.
Msgr. Burton, 62, was born in Vineland, and attended Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington, N.J. He was ordained on May 20, 1972, by Bishop George H. Guilfoyle at St. Francis of Assisi, Vineland. His first assignment was as parochial vicar at Church of the Incarnation, Mantua, from 1972-76. His first pastorship was at St. Raymond, Villas, 1996-2002, and in 2002 he became pastor of St. Isidore, Vineland.
In May 2005, he was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Camden.
He has served multiple terms on Diocesan Liturgical Commission, including three terms as chairman. He also served as chairman of the Committee for Diocesan Ceremonies, director of the Office of Worship the Camden, and Region 3 Representative of the Board of Directors, Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions.
Father Moore, 65, has been administrator at St. Veronica since May 15.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and studied at The Catholic University, Washington, D.C.; Immaculate Conception, in New York. He was ordained on May 31, 1969 at St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral, Camden, by Bishop George H. Guilfoyle.
His first assignment was as parochial vicar at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in Atlantic City from 1969-73. He also has served as parochial vicar of Christ the King, Haddonfield, 1973-79; Assumption, Pomona, 1979-84; St. Isidore, Vineland, 1984-88; Incarnation Mantua, 1988-93; and St. Andrew, Gibbsboro, 1993-96.
In 1996, he was named pastor of Queen of the Apostles, Pennsville, and in 2002, he became pastor at St. Cecilia. Other notable assignments include serving as a member on the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, Priests’ Council, and the Vocation Advisory Board.
